Commitments of Traders (COT) Reports

Completion requirements

Quiet prices don't necessarily mean quiet positioning. Large futures traders can reduce long exposure, increase short positions or do both while a market barely moves. Looking only at the net figure can hide how those changes actually happened.

Our weekly COT reports track positioning across metals, energy, agricultural commodities and financial futures, including currencies and equity indices. Long and short positions, open interest and historical comparisons provide a broader view of market participation. Interactive charts allow readers to examine different trader groups and explore how their exposure has developed over time.

COT figures describe reported positions at a specific point in time. They arrive with a delay and reveal little about individual trading motives. We examine what has changed, consider the historical context and distinguish measurable facts from possible interpretations. A positioning report is a record of market activity, not a forecast.
