Stock Market & Fundamental Research Glossary
An increase in reported earnings can look encouraging until you notice that cash generation has weakened. A company may announce a substantial share buyback without meaningfully reducing its share count. These are familiar situations in equity research, where the headline figures rarely provide the complete picture.
The stock glossary covers financial statements, valuation, profitability, cash flow, capital allocation, shareholder ownership, insider disclosures and corporate actions. It examines how common measures are calculated, what they capture and which factors can influence their interpretation.
Accounting policies, reporting periods and company-specific adjustments can make apparently similar businesses difficult to compare. A financial ratio becomes much more informative once you understand the numbers behind it, the assumptions involved and the questions it cannot answer on its own.
